St Lorenzo Day

Though I waited  a year for this day, it escaped my notice ( mea culpa maximus) and so this post has reached this space very late. I am trying to delude myself  into accepting that dates don't matter and I have atleast posted this in August. And the saint would definitely pardon me a new momma and insane researcher in the final phase of  her PhD. Ever since I saw this image in the movie 'Under the tuscan sun' ( a must watch for all Italian food lovers), I decided I would get hold of this statue and I am still hunting it till date. It's not my devotion to saints that makes me want this but the camaraderie I share with the love for cooking that I associate with this saint who is known as the Patron saint of cooks. I love the image of this saint holding girdle in one hand and garlic in another. There are different versions to why he is considered the patron saint of cooks but my favourite is the one I read on thefoodieskitchen.

If you google St Lorenzo this is the first link you see. It is believed that when sentenced to death by the prefect on Rome during the years of persecution, St Lorenzo cried out ( apparently they grilled him over fire) " Turn me over I am done on this side". And before he died he cried out " It's cooked enough now". Though I have no clue about the veracity of these statements, I find this statue quite enigmatic. So happy St Lorenzo day. One of the best things that has happened to me and that has inspired my cooking in these four years is my visit to Italy. It's Italy that made me fall in love with their cuisine, cheese, wine, gelato and St Lorenzo. So here are few pics from my Italian days. Now that's too much Italy for a day.

Stay tuned for my next post on an Italian appetizer. Till then enjoy my travelogue in pics. Yep, I looked cute then and I was wondering how I could post these here some day. Thanks to St Lorenzo I got my answer today :)

That reminds me I have not written a book review, restaurant review or film review for quite some time. I have an Italian restaurant review pending too. I'll be back till then ciao ciao!
