Mutter paneer

We love paneer back home. But right now paneer enters our kitchen when lent begins or we have vegetarian guests at home. Paneer is the Indian cottage cheese and comes in handy for exquisite starters and curries. Mutter paneer is a Punjabi delicacy. This is my version and mildly spicy. I have reduced the intake of spices these days. So here is my version of mutter paneer a bit non spicy for the first time.

Ingredients for Mutter Paneer

Paneer- 250 gm cubed
Green peas (mutter) fresh or frozen- 200gm
Onion- Sliced 2
Ginger garlic paste- 2 tbsp
Green Chillies- 4-6 slit
Tomatoes- 3 sliced
Chilli powder- 2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 2 tsp
Cilantro- 1 sprig
Salt- to taste
Oil- 2 tbsp

Directions

In a pan heat oil. Add the onions and fry till they are golden brown.

Now add the ginger garlic paste and saute till they blend with the onions. Add chopped chillies and tomatoes. Add salt this will mash the tomatoes. Add turmeric and chilli powder once the tomatoes blend with the onions and pastes and makes a sauce. Into this add the peas and paneer and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Garnish with cilantro. I love adding a little grama masala before garnishing with cilantro but I am controlling it these days because my veggies end up tasting like my non veg dishes for the same reason but you could try it for a pungent flavour.
Mutter paneer goes well with chapathis and rice as well. I love to have it with cumin flavoured rice also known as jeera rice to Indians.
