I had a wonderful Chirstmas with my family. This time we tried something new for every meal and did not have anything traditional. I tried bangers and mash for breakfast. Bangers and mash is a traditional english dish. We all love sausages and after the advent it was the first non vegetarian dish that my hubby and I taste. He always looks forward to the first meal after advent and lent and I must say I managed to pass his test in flying colours.
Ingredients for Bangers and Mash
Sausages( chicken/beef/pork- I used chicken) - 8
Onions- 5 chopped
Red wine- 1 cup
Oregano- a pinch
Pepper- a dash
Potatoes- 6 large ones
Milk- 100 ml
Butter- 50 gm
Salt- a pinch
Olive oil- 3 tbsp
Directions
Heat oil in a pan and fry the sausages.

Drain and keep them aside. In another pan heat oil and fry the onions. Add sugar when the onions are half done to caramelise them. Add 1 cup red wine to the caramelised onions and saute till they make a thick sauce.

Now add the pepper, salt and oregano to this sauce. If you want your sauce thinner add little water. Bring the sauce to boil and set aside. Boil the poatoes and peel them. Mash them with butter, milk and salt. You can add pepper and oregano for flavour if you like it that way. I did it that way and found it delicious. Finally for plating, you can try different arrangements. Some traditional recipies scoop mashed potatoes over the sausages and pour the sauce all over, I have tried four different styles but have only put up one of the plating arrangement for this post.
Hope you like this.
