My hubby and I alongwith bhai visited the crawford market in Mumbai a year ago. We came across some exotic fruits one of which was this - the dragon fruit. Dragon fruit also known ad 'Pitaya' are native to Mexico, south and Central America. They are exported from Thailand, Vietnam, Phillipines and even Srilanka and Bangladesh. My research on this fruit revealed that it was grown on a cacti which added to my fascination.
The inside of the fruit looked and tasted like a pink kiwi with all those little crunchy black seeds and to me it taste like soap with loads of sugar though bhai took a liking instantly. We remember buying just one fruit for hundred rupees and we ate it the same night lest it rot the next day. For a family of fruit haters this was the costliest fruit we ever had. I never saw it anywhere thereafter. Have you ever tasted this?
